Unit 1: Identity and Ideology

Identity and Ideology

In this unit, you begin your exploration into what ideology is and how it affects you, members of your community, other Canadians, and people around the world. You will accomplish that by examining the following issue question:

Should ideology be the foundation of identity?

Ideologies are systems of thought and ideas that try to explain how the world should work from an individual or group perspective. Differences in ideologies can be attributed to the social, economic, and political beliefs and values that influence people. Ideology impacts your life and the way of life of people and communities all over the world.
As you work through this unit, you will explore the relationship between identity and ideology. You will begin to understand your own personal ideology. What do you know about ideology? How does ideology have an effect on you? Have you ever really thought about it?
